The Luzerne County Library System has unveiled a new website for public library access. The new website, www.luzernelibraries.org, has a new look with streamlined features such as rotating informational banners, compatibility with mobile devices, and more local library content. The most commonly used items can be found within one to two clicks of the home page, including an online library card application and built-in search for library materials. Links to library social media accounts are on every page. Shared databases are also easier to access on the website. Luzerne County residents may use library databases to do research, prepare for occupational testing, search family histories, and more. The website transitions with the Luzerne County Library System Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC), which also has a new look. With the OPAC, library users may search the entire county for resources and reserve them for delivery to their local libraries. Luzerne County Libraries receive delivery six days a week. The delivery of library items along with the many databases that are also featured on the new website are provided in conjunction with the Wilkes-Barre Library District. Founded in 1984, the Luzerne County Library System (LCLS) serves all residents of Luzerne County. LCLS is comprised of 10 autonomous libraries. Any citizen of Luzerne County is entitled to receive a free library card. Cards issued to county residents are automatically enrolled in the Access PA program that allows them to use any of the more than 500 state aided libraries in Pennsylvania without charge. The 10 members of the LCLS include: Back Mountain Memorial Library, Dallas; Hazleton Area Public Library, Hazleton (main library and four branches); Hoyt Library, Kingston; Marian Sutherland Kirby Library, Mountain Top; Mill Memorial Library, Nanticoke; Osterhout Free Library, Wilkes-Barre (main library and three branches); Pittston Memorial Library, Pittston; Plymouth Public Library, Plymouth; West Pittston Library, West Pittston; and Wyoming Free Library, Wyoming.
